The Lithosphere according to the oxford dictionary is the rocky outer part of the Earth. The lithosphere is always moving, but very slowly. When an Earthquake occurs the Lithosphere becomes shaky and the Earthquake create ground rupture, landslides, avalanches, fires, forests destroyed and severe building damage. Attributable to the Haiti Earthquake the North American Plate moved slightly westward, and the Caribbean Plate moved slightly eastward.
During the shakiness of the lithosphere many buildings homes and families in Haitit where destroyed. It has left More than 70% of people in Haiti were living on less than $US2 per day. 86% of people in Port au Prince were living in slum conditions - mostly tightly-packed, poorly-built, shared housed and concrete buildings. 3,500,000 people were affected by the quake. 60% of Government and administrative buildings, 80% of schools in Port-au-Prince and 60% of schools (4,000 school buildings) in the South and West Departments were destroyed or damaged. Many famous and monumental buildings such as The Presidential Palace, Court of Justice, Port-au-Prince Cathedral, United Nations buildings where crumbled to dust. The shock also caused crucial damage to hospitals, the prison, museums, the telephone network, and roads.
The environment was deeply effected by the disaster, in accordance to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the biggest issue is the building waste; “some 40 percent to 50 percent of the buildings fell in Port-au-Prince and nearby towns”.
The Biosphere according to the oxford dictionary is the regions of the surface and atmosphere of the earth or another planet occupied by living organisms, the land we live on. Earthquakes effect the biosphere in many parts, it kills people and animals, it also disrupts ecosystem and destroys plant life/crops. Due to the Haiti Earthquake of 2010 the water supply and food supply has decreased significantly because the soil is taking a long time to produce plants and crops.
Half of the people in Port-au-Prince have been left with no access to latrines and only one-third has access to tap water. Haiti was covered in 60 percent forest and now suffers from deforestation with less than 2 percent of forest left today. This lack of trees caused alot of soil erosion problems which puts both food and clean water sources at risk. This further effects the people because if there if the soil is failing, then there is no access to basic life necessaries such as crops and water. This led too the people and animal life dyeing from starvation and dehydration. Even if there was access to food or water it was highly contaminated which bought on diseases such as Cholera.
The Atmosphere according to the oxford dictionary is the envelope of gases surrounding the earth or another planet. Earthquakes effect the atmosphere because Gas emissions from ground release toxic gases that are released into the atmosphere. Earthquakes create dust, debris and gas emissions released from the ground. These toxic gases to the atmosphere which add to the air people breath from. Many people had died in the Haiti Earthquake by polluted air and being unable to breath. It is estimated that this polluted air has killed 64,00 people the year the 2010 Haiti earthquake occurred. Port-au-Prince has been named a health concern due to its polluted air (caused by 2010 earthquake), according to the EPA guidelines.
The Hydrosphere according to the oxford dictionary is all the waters on the earth's surface, such as lakes and seas, and sometimes including water over the earth's surface and clouds. Earthquakes react with the hydrosphere which is why many Tsunamis occur. For Example the Hydrosphere can be effected by earthquakes through the weakness of soil. The 2010 earthquake in Haiti affected the country’s mountains terrain and bought on four storms within less than four weeks of the Earthquakes occurrence. Many valleys and lowland areas through Haiti experienced Heavy Flooding and severe storms which reduced the agricultural resources extremely. A deadly Tsunami also hit Haiti because of the 2010 earthquake and killed 3 people destroying even more homes. The Society is the people living together in a reasonably ordered community. Impact on society due to Earthquake include deaths, the loss of peoples homes, the development of mental disorders and the catching of diseases.People can also be traumatised and effected by earthquakes quite severally mentally as well as physically. In the 2010 Earthquake society was impacted heavily. Many people suffered from Cholera a disease spread by water and food. Also 60 % off people In accordance to “Earthquake Haiti Statistics” become depressed, suffered from anxiety and become very fearful. The people of Haiti had no access to housing, health care, education, or employment, as well as high violence based on sexual orientation and gender. The Right to Adequate Food was sparingly stripped away from Haitians. Many families where torn apart and Education was taken away from nearly every child.
